Sunday School

Doxie Skordelis School of Religious Education of

 The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church

The mission of Sunday School is to educate our children in the Orthodox Faith, helping them build a strong foundation that will guide them throughout their lives.

Our goal is to partner with families to build this strong foundation of faith in a supportive and nurturing environment. h.

We offer classes for children ages 2 through 18, including Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 1 through 12. Each Sunday, students begin by attending the Divine Liturgy with their families. After receiving Holy Communion, they proceed directly to their classrooms. Classes run from September to May and conclude by the end of Divine Liturgy.

Our Sunday School Program uses a carefully designed curriculum that deepens each student’s understanding of the Orthodox Christian Faith. Lessons cover core areas such as the Holy Bible, Church history, Doctrine, Spirituality, and Worship. Alongside spiritual education, we emphasize the communal nature of our faith, fostering strong bonds within our local Christian community and parish.

Our efforts are rooted in scripture and Christ’s love for children:

– Matthew 19:13-14: Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, ‘Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

– 2 Timothy 3:15: And how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

– Proverbs 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go; Even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Through Sunday School, we aim to nurture the spiritual growth of our children, helping them connect deeply with their faith, their community, and God. Together with families, we seek to raise the next generation to embrace and live their Orthodox Christian faith with love and devotion.
